Albert Veillon, a devoted husband, father and beloved member of the Mamou community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the age of 87. Albert was born on Tuesday, June 1, 1937, in Mamou, Louisiana and spent his life deeply rooted in his hometown, where he made a lasting impact on all who knew him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 23, 2024 with Father Billy Massie as Celebrant. Albert will then be laid to rest in the New St. Ann's Cemetery in Mamou, where his physical journey will conclude, but his spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he loved.
Albert spent 68 wonderful years married to his beloved wife, Belva Jane Thibodeaux Veillon, exemplifying a partnership filled with love, commitment, and friendship. Albert was a hard working and skilled Dredge Boat Captain for Shell Dredging. He was also a man who remained faithful to his Catholic beliefs throughout his life and was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He instilled values of love, compassion, and dedication in his children, serving as a guiding light to them.
Albert’s caring nature and loving spirit will be deeply missed by his wife, Belva Jane Thibodeaux Veillon; one son, John Neal Veillon (Melinda); three daughters, Pamela Kay Aguillard (Greg), Ginger Rogers Guillory (Ricky), and Lori Ann Benoit; and ten grandchildren. He was also blessed with 32 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as one sister, Lurline Fontenot.
Albert now rests with his parents, Stagg and Ora Manuel Veillon; brothers, Ivy, Elvin, Emile, and Stagg Veillon; sisters, Lurlie Briley and Regina Darbonne; and grandson, Damien Aguillard.
His memory will be honored during a visitation at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou from 9:00 AM to 1:45 PM on Monday, September 23, 2024. A rosary will be prayed on Monday at 1:00 PM.
