MAMOU – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Alida Bazar at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, LA on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at New St. Ann’s Cemetery. Father Massie will preside over the services.
Alida Bazar, a beloved housewife and devoted mother, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on December 26, 2023, in Mamou, LA. A remarkable woman whose life centered around her family. Her proudest accomplishment was raising her nine children with immense love and dedication. Alida deeply cherished the joy of large family gatherings as she found immense happiness in bringing everyone together and creating lasting memories.
Apart from being a dedicated mother and homemaker, Alida was actively involved in her community. She served as an Ultrea leader for Saint Ann's Catholic Church and was a member of the Come Lord Jesus Group. Her commitment to her faith extended to becoming a Eucharistic Minister and teaching religious education at Saint Ann's Catholic Church. Alida embodied the values of compassion and service to others.
Alida indulged in various hobbies and interests. She had a passion for sewing and could create beautiful garments with her skilled hands. Scrabble was another favorite pastime that she thoroughly enjoyed with family and friends. Dancing brought her immense joy as she let loose on the dance floor, swaying gracefully to the music. Josephine also had an affinity for watching "Wheel of Fortune" and old western movies that provided entertainment and relaxation.
She is survived by her three sons, Nathaniel “Jamie” Berzas (Madeline) of Mamou, Stephan Berzas (Belinda) of Branch, and Paul “T-Boy” Berzas, Jr. (Laurie) of Ville Platte; six daughters, Jeannette Miller of Eunice, Jeanne Dischler (Karl) of Eunice, Ellen Guillory (Paul) of Mamou, Paula Berzas of Mamou, Elizabeth Kratzer of Mamou and Andrea Barnes (James) of Mamou; her sister, Diana Pierrotti of Mamou; 29 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Alida is proceeded in death by her parents, Jimmie Bergeron and Effie Bergeron Menier; her brothers, Larry Bergeron and Michael Douglas Bergeron and her loving husband, Paul Nathan Bazar, Sr.
At the family’s request visitation will be observed on Thursday, December 28, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou. Visitation will continue Friday, December 29, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
