MAMOUIt is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Armogene Deshotel, 96, announce his passing on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 3:15 am at Evangeline Extended Care in Mamou. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Anns Catholic Church in Mamou. Rite of Committal will follow in the New St. Anns Mausoleum in Mamou with Father Mark Melancon, Celebrant.
Mr. Deshotel, a resident of Mamou for over 70 years and was a resident of Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Pine Prairie was a parishioner of St. Anns Catholic Church as an Usher, a member of Knights of Columbus , the Woodman of the World and the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was a farmer most of his life having raised cotton, cattle and having operated large scale poultry and swine operations and was employed at the Mamou Feed Store as a Purina Feed Salesman and the Mamou Rice Dryer for many years.
Mr. Armogene will be greatly missed by his children, Juanita Deshotels of Lafayette, Berna Deshotel and husband, Jeanard of Opelousas and Dr. Tim Deshotel and wife Amy of Mamou ten grandchildren, Christina Shelton, Steve Deshotels, Sara Hellickson, Patrick Deshotels, Tony, Brian, Chad , Jose, Javier, and Seyda Deshotel sixteen Great grandchildren, Andre, Danielle, Taylor, Brandon, Ellie, Christopher, Renee, Noah, Julianna, Ben, Bryce, Nicholas, Hannah, Catherine, Andrew and Jessica. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Deshotel will now reunite in Heaven with his wife, Gladys Savant Deshotel, his father, Simon Deshotel his mother, Armoza Landreneau one brother, Arcius and two sisters, Lonia Fontenot and Eloise Guillory. Their reunion will surely be a joyous occasion. He will be remembered for his love of his children and grandchildren as well as his gentleness and kindness. He also had a great love for farming and the outdoor work that it entailed. He always stressed the importance of doing a good job to all his children and grandchildren.
At the request of the family, visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm The Funeral Home will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 am until time of services.
