MAMOU-Funeral Services will be held at a 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou on Friday, October 12, 2018, for Berthaline Fontenot Israel, 85, who passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Savoy Care Center surrounded by her loved ones.
Father Billy Massie, Pastor at St. Ann's Catholic Church, will be celebrant of the mass and will conduct all funeral services.
Burial will take place in the New St. Ann's Cemetery in Mamou.
Berthaline Fontenot Israel was born on December 20, 1932 to Jean Baptiste and Marie Adena Fontenot. She went on the marry Hampton Israel; together they had seven children. She was a farmer's wife and spent many long days picking cotton beside her husband. Berthaline went on to work at Savoy Medical Center for over 23 years where she was the housekeeping supervisor. When she wasn't working or tending to her family she was baking some of the freshest bread and pies around. Her devotion to her family was apparent every day. She prayed a rosary daily for her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis Israel and wife Anita of Mamou and John Israel and wife Pam of Alexandria; daughters, Sheila Deshotel and husband Derryl of Mamou, Sally Chapman and husband Brook, Roxy Christ and husband Scott; and Helen Israel of Mamou; grandchildren, Benji Israel and wife Jana, Victoria Boone and husband Merlin, Cody Israel and wife Billie, Missy Israel, Candace Israel, John Israel, II and wife Kandace, Justin Deshotel and wife Erica, Jade Deshotel, Ferryl Deshotel and wife Rainee, Alex Chapman and wife Amy, Chancely Fruge and husband Buddy, Hunter Christ and wife Brittany and Logan Christ and wife Kristie; 23 great-grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
Berthaline is preceded in death her husband, Hampton Israel; parents, Jean Baptiste and Marie Adena Fontenot; son, Ronald Ray Israel; brothers, Maurice Fontenot, Sr. and Gilbert Fontenot, Sr.; and sisters, Hazel Lafleur and Rosebelle Manuel.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited by on Thursday evening. Visitation will resume on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 8:00 AM until time of service.
