It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Burney LeDoux, a lifetime resident of Mamou, announces his passing on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the VA Nursing Home in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was 96.
Burney was an Army veteran who served his country during World War II in the European Theater. He was injured in the line of duty and was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart. Upon returning to life in Mamou, Burney founded LeDoux's Grocery and Feed Mill. He was an outdoorsman who loved rabbit hunting with his beagles. He also loved to fish using hoop nets and even learned how to make his own. Upon retirement he became an avid gardener. Burney participated in the Senior Olympics in his later life having won 1st place in Billiards and Shuffle Board on three occasions.
Burney was a strong and hardworking man striving to ensure success in life for his children. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Burney leaves behind to cherish his memories his sons Dr. Harold LeDoux and wife Gayle of Lafayette and Craig LeDoux and wife Lynette of Burleson, Texas; daughter Judi Pulizzano and husband Henry of Denham Springs; sister Betty Augustine of Sulphur, La.; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Burney is proceeded in death by his wife of 78 years, Bessie Ardoin LeDoux, parents Parlange and Marie LeDoux, sisters Neda Deshotel, Early Mae Manuel, Della McCauley, brother Edney LeDoux and son-in-law Toni Stikeleather. The family of Burney LeDoux wishes to thank the staff at the Alexandria VA Medical Center's Nursing Home (Ward 45A) for the excellent care extended to their father for so many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou on Friday, May 19 at 2 PM. with Father Mitchell Guidry as Celebrant and Father Alphonse Thainese as Co-Celebrant. Visitation will be held at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou on Friday, May 19, 2017 beginning at 8:00 AM until Mass time. A rosary will be prayed in his honor Friday at 11 AM. Rite of committal will take place in the New St. Ann's Cemetery, with military honors being rendered. Family and friends may view the online obituary and/or leave condolences for the family at ardoinfuneralhomes.com.
