Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Murdock was a dynamic person, with a passion second to none in everything he did, whether it be performing surgery, playing basketball, tennis, golf or trying to beat someone in a swimming race. Murdock was a competitor, big time. As all of us go through life with ups and downs, Murdock was no exception, but he most definitely took the high road when he moved back to Mamou in 1978 after completing a vascular surgery residency in Dallas Texas, and subsequently working a few years in Billings Montana as a vascular surgeon. Murdock then came to Mamou to work with his friend and mentor, Dr. Frank Savoy, Jr. Murdock was the driving force working with Dr. Frank Savoy in the support and expansion of the Medical/surgical healthcare services at Savoy medical center, wherein Savoy Medical Center became the largest rural medical surgical hospital in the entire United States. Dr. Murdock was passionate in his medical practice and compassionate for the patients that he served, doing everything possible to take care of their medical needs, including making sure that no matter what his patients could afford to pay, he assured that arrangements were made to allow them to afford the services, including the waiver of his physician fees. That was Murdock ‘s way. He will be forever missed by so many people, including his golf buddies and lifelong friends, Peter Savoy, Chuck Frazer and Upendra Kulkarni. Dr. Murdock was also an army veteran, who served his country proudly. We are forever in debt and in gratitude of his service as both a medical doctor and defender of our country. God bless Dr. Murdock and God bless America.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack Murdock.
