Edwina F. Chapman, age 90 of Mamou, LA, born March 18, 1934, went to meet her Heavenly Father the morning of October 7, 2024.
Edwina was a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was the daughter of cotton farmers, Ortere and Vivian Fontenot, where she spent her younger years in Mamou with her five siblings. In 1950, she married the love of her life Johnny Chapman, a rice and soybean farmer of Mamou. Johnny and Edwina had four wonderful children during their 40 years of marriage. They raised their children in Oberlin, LA for many years until retirement. They moved back to Mamou to enjoy retirement and live out the rest of their lives together.
Edwina was a devout Catholic and an active member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Ann’s. Edwina enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, traveling, outings with friends and family, and morning and afternoon coffee visits with friends. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Savoy Medical Center and volunteered at Savoy Cancer Center. Edwina was once the reigning Queen of the Cajun Music Festival in Mamou.
Edwina’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will always remember her famous quote, “Love you big, big like a cho-cho pig!” She will forever be known for her contagious smile and sense of humor and will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
Edwina is survived by her children, Deborah (Strat) Kingrey; Kirk (Faye) Chapman; Jill Clemmons; grandchildren, John-Paul Chapman; Jessica Gallaway; Kathryn Blessington; Eric Barbee; Clay Chapman; Kara Kingrey Hebert; Justin Clemmons; Kaitlyn D’Antoni; 6 great grandchildren. She preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Chapman; parents, Ortere and Vivian Fontenot; son, Keith Chapman; and siblings, Forrest, Joy, Berk, Jane, and Francis.
