MAMOU - Funeral services will be held at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou on Wednesday, April 04, 2018 at 10:00 AM for Elizabeth "Libby" Deshotel, 91, who passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018 in Mamou, LA surrounded by her loved ones.
Father Bob Courville will be celebrant of the mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Rite of Committal will take place in the New St. Ann's Cemetery.
Elizabeth "Libby" Deshotels was born August 7, 1926 in Beaumont, Texas to Callie Hill Dabney and Rosa Elizabeth Eddy. She was a lifelong resident of Reddell and was hired as one of the first nurses at Savoy Medical Center where she spent her 42 year nursing career. Many considered her the "best nurse to ever walk the halls of Savoy Medical Center." Libby was a parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Elby "Be" Deshotels, driving fast, and was a diligent reader. She was passionate about cooking by the rules and enjoying something sweet after every meal. Libby passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018 on her favorite holiday, Easter.
She is survived by her three children: Be Deshotels of Boyce, Becky Deshotels Reese and husband Eddy of Aledo,Texas, and Luke Deshotels and wife Jonell Bergeron of Reddell; 11 grandchildren: Dr. Becky Lee Burk and husband Michael of Aledo, Texas, Sarah Primeaux and husband Steffan of Abbeville, Weston Reese of Aledo, Texas, Ben Deshotels of Lafayette, Anna Deshotels of Boyce, Brittney Winborn of Boyce, Quinton Winborn of Savannah, Georgia, Alec Deshotels of Raleigh, North Carolina, Robert Deshotels of Reddell, Valli Deshotels Soileau and husband Dagan Soileau of Mamou, and Tina Deshotels and husband Anthony Guillory of Reddell. Libby is also survived by 10 great grandchildren: Ezra and Libby Burk, Maddox Primeaux, Eli, Nikita and Samuel Soileau, Cy and Jace Deshotels, Kase Guillory, and Mason Davidge.
Libby is preceded in death by her parents Callie Hill Dabney and Rosa Elizabeth Eddy, husband, Elby "Be" Deshotels and her brother Milton Dabney.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou on Tuesday, April 3 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be led by Deacon Ben Soileau on Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM.
