Mrs. LaHaye, age 92, died on Saturday, November 18, 2006, at her residence.
The visitation was held on Sunday, November 19, 2006, from 5:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. and again on Monday, November 20, 2006 from 8:00 A.M. until time of services. A rosary was recited at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday evening.
Emily Deshotel LaHaye was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt Godmother to a large family and large extended family, as well. As her husband and three children were, she was a graduate of Vidrine High School. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing cards with friends, hosting many gatherings of family and friends in the Aubrey LaHaye outdoor kitchen which is still a gathering place for Evangeline Parish 4-H and Medical Society events. A serious homemaker, she was for many years an active member of the Evangeline Parish Home Demonstration Club, enabling herself to keep abreast of all that was new in sewing, cooking, gardening, and wise homemaking.
A lifetime member of St. Anns Catholic Church of Mamou, she taught Catechism at Vidrine Elementary School as a young mother and was very involved in the St. Anns Chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America, serving a term as President and holding numerous other offices. In 1975 she was named Outstanding Member of that group. A leader in her small rural community, Emily always sought excellence and shared that example in all that she undertook. She will be missed, but the strength of her good works will endure.
She is survived by her son Wayne G. LaHaye, M.D., his wife, Susan Dupre LaHaye; her daughter-in-Law Dulcie Jane Dupre LaHaye; and son-in-law David V. Sonny Devillier; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one, sister, Verdie Deshotel Dupre. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey G. LaHaye, her daughter, Flora Jane Tot LaHaye Devillier, her son Ferrell Glenn LaHaye, grandchildren, Robert Lynette Smokey LaHaye Martin and Kaye Marie Devillier Person, as well as a great-grand son, Alex Scott Fisher.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The St. Anns Catholic Church pew fund.
