MAMOU-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 22, 2009 at St. Anns Catholic Church in Mamou for Gladys Deshotel, 84, who passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009 at Savoy Medical Center, in Mamou. Burial will follow in the New St. Anns Mausoleum with Father Bryce Sibley officiating.
A resident of Mamou and a native of Pine Prairie , Gladys was employed by Evangeline Parish Schools in the Cafeteria for 22 years. She was very involved in the community, as a Boy Scout Den Leader, Ladies Alter Society, Catholic Daughters, Pink Lady for Savoy Medical Center, Eucharistic Minister at St. Anns Catholic Church and a Choir Member at St. Anns .
Gladys is survived by her husband of 68 years, Armogene Deshotel of Mamou; two daughters, Juanita Deshotels of Lafayette, Berna and husband Jeanard Deshotel of Opelousas; one son, Dr. Tim and wife Amy Deshotel of Mamou; ten grandchildren, Christina, Steve, Sara , Patrick, Tony, Brian, Chad, Jose, Javier, and Briseyda Deshotel; fifteen Great-grandchildren , Andre Danielle Hellickson, Elizabeth, Christopher, Renee Shelton, Bryce, Nicholas, Hannah Catherine Deshotel, Andrew Deshotel, Taylor Brandon Deshotels, and Noah, Julianna Benjamin Deshotels; one sister, Viola Fontenot, of Beaver.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Regile Savant; brothers, and sisters, Tennis Savant, Onest Savant, Delia Soileau, and Edna Ardoin
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Ardoins Funeral Home in Mamou from 9:00 am 9:00 pm . The Funeral Home will reopen on Monday at 8am until time of services. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 7:00 pm.
