Mamou It is with great sadness that the family of Harrison Joseph Fontenot announces his passing on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his residence. He was 76 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anns Catholic Church in Mamou. Rite of Committal will follow in the Old Ville Platte Cemetery in Ville Platte. Fr. Mark Melancon will officiate the services.
Harrison was known as an accordion builder, crop duster, and musician. He was honored in 2001 at the Cajun Music Festival and was inducted into the Cajun Music Hall of Fame at Freds in Mamou.
Harrison leaves behind a loving and caring family including two sons Jean Fontenot of Carencro and Xavier Zeb Fontenot of Alexandria, one daughter Juan Ella Fontenot of Lafayette, two brothers Jerald Monier of Eunice and Charles Monier of California, three sisters Shirley Meyers of Eunice, Barbara Monier of Opelousas, and JoAnn Bordelon of Ville Platte, three grandchildren Jessica Fontenot, Chip Hollingsworth, and Laurie Beth LeBlanc, one great grandchild Michael LeBlanc and his special companion Ethel Bondick of Mamou.
He now rests in Heaven with his parents, Saby and Marie Fontenot.
At the request of the family visitation will be held at Ardoins Funeral Home in Mamou on Monday, January 24 from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and again on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 8:00 AM until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM Monday evening.
