It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Herland Ray Guillory "Gill", a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor, and friend, on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, at Baptist South Community Hospice in Mandarin, Florida.

Born in Pine Prairie, Louisiana on April 5th, 1934, Herland, 90, lived a life rich in experiences and filled with unwavering patriotism. His journey took him far beyond his Louisiana roots, including a fascinating stint as a French interpreter for the U.S. Navy in French Morocco. This remarkable experience provided a backdrop for his later achievements.

At the young age of 39, Herland, using the GI Bill, earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching, a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning. His professional life was equally diverse, including a successful period running his own locksmith business. He proudly displayed his love for his country by always flying the American flag at his home; a fact that was even highlighted in a local newspaper article celebrating his military service.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Herland was a man of simple pleasures. He was a devoted fan of the Saints, LSU Tigers, Jaguars, and the Gators, finding immense joy in NASCAR races and watching a challenging round of golf. As a true Cajun, he delighted in the enjoyment a fabulous dessert, boudin, savored a perfect cup of coffee, and appreciated a good joke.

Herland's faith was a cornerstone of his life, evident in his long-standing memberships at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, Louisiana, and became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church while in Jacksonville, Florida.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, including his only child, Regina (David Johnson); his adored grandson, David L. Taylor III (Ashlee); his two precious greatgrandgirls, Aura and Matilda; his bonus stepdaughter, Barbara (Johnny) Hartley; his beloved friend, Ms. Trudy Roberie; and numerous cousins, including Betty, Billy, Glenn (Agnus/Issac) Guillory, Amanda Thille (Rose/Ethel), and Kim, including so many more.

Gill is now reunited with the angels and his loving parents, Adam and Melda (Granger) Guillory; his precious brothers, Allen and Harris; his former wife, Irene; and bonus stepson, Howard Ware.

A Graveside Service celebrating Herland's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at New St. Ann’s Mausoleum (1863 Old Hwy 13, Mamou, LA 70554), with Father Massie officiating.
