MAMOU- Herman Joseph Guillory Sr. joined his Heavenly family on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the age of 89. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the New St. Ann's Cemetery with Father Thianese as celebrant.
Born to parents Allen and Allie Guillory on August 15, 1925 in Mamou, Louisiana, Herman resided there until he met and married the love of his life, Mary Vernella Devillier Guillory in September 1943. They went on to have four children, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren...Herman proudly served his country as a tail gunner with the 15th Air Force division over Europe in World War II. He will be remembered as a gentle soul who showed fairness, kindness, and consideration to everyone he encountered. His love of woodworking has left his loved ones with fond memories and amazing reminders of his talent for years to come.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Herman is lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years, Mary Vernella Devillier Guillory, his sister Allie Ann Reed and husband Mac of New Iberia. His children, Herman Joseph Guillory Jr. and wife Del of Lafayette, David Guillory, Janet Guillory Miller and fiance' Gary Wicke, and Danny and Regina Guillory all of Lake Charles. Herman also leaves behind four grandchildren, Kevin Guillory and wife Lori of New Iberia, Craig Guillory and wife Melissa of Dallas, TX, Kristi Guillory Munzing and husband Michael of Lafayette, and Ashley Miller of Lake Charles. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of much loved friends and neighbors.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents, sister Winnie Soileau, and brother Hersey Guillory, all of Mamou, Louisiana. They will awaiting his arrival with open arms and joyous hearts.
At the request of the Guillory family, a visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 12 noon until time of services. A rosary will be recited in Mr. Guillory's honor on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2 PM.
The Guillory family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the physicians and staff at Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles. Words cannot express our overwhelming gratitude for the loving care that our husband, father, and grandfather received in his final days.
