Mamou-Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. for Jake Fontenot with father Pius Vallooran officiating. Burial followed in the New St. Anns Mausoleum.

Mr. Fontenot, a resident of Mamou, died at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Jake, was born in Ville Platte, on September 21, 1942. He graduated from Vidrine High School in 1960 and was a farmer until he returned to school and graduated from McNeese in 1970 with a BS in business. He then attended LSU Law School and graduated in 1973. He practiced law for 28 years in Mamou and retired in 2001. He was then selected to be the directed of Mamou Health Resources.

Jake is survived by his wife of 44 years, Greta Fuselier Fontenot, who he said was the best nurse and care giver he could have had; his son and best friend, Chris Fontenot, and his wife, Shannon T. Fontenot, and their two children that he adored, Leah Brooke and Laura Beth Fontenot of Vidrine; a daughter, Jamie Elizabeth Fontenot, of Brusley; one brother, Warren Fontenot, and his wife, Marlene Fontenot also of Vidrine; three nieces, Amy F. Tate, Alison and Ashley Fontenot; three brothers-in-law, Johnny, Eddie, and Chuck Fuselier; and the best friend a man could have, Bob Marcantel.

Jake enjoyed his family first and foremost, and his roses and gardening were a close second. He was an honest and hardworking man, and he will greatly missed by those who knew him well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Rose Fontenot.

Viewing for family only, will be from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 and will open for the public from 4:00 p.m.-until 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, until time of services at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to La Family Hospice at 903 Cherry Street Mamou,La.
