MAMOU - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou on Friday, December 29, 2017, for John "Big John" Deshotel, Sr., 73, who passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
Brother David Plunkett will be will be conducting the funeral services.
Burial will take place in Ortego Cemetery.
Big John was a Sheriff Deputy for the Evangeline Parish Sheriff Department for over 20 years; where he headed the motorcycle division. Many years before that he worked for the Washington Police Department, and was the former President of Fire District 3 in St. Landry Parish. He also hosted a French radio show on KVPI. He loved motorcycling, fishing and music. He played the drums for Swampland Express. He was a loving husband for 54 years, his wife Kitty will always treasure each moment of their lives. They shared and will continue to treasure each moment. He will always remain in their hearts forever and ever.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ester "Kitty" Deshotel; daughters, Mandy Taylor and husband Chris, Tabby Fontenot and husband Anthony "Pine", and Shantell Vidrine and husband Chris; sons, Ricky Deshotel, John Deshotel, Jr. and wife Denise, and Jeremy Deshotel and wife Kristi; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Merline Thibodeaux and Debra Moldoon; and brother, Bobby Deshotel.
Big John is preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Rita Guillory Deshotel; and brother, Harris Deshotel.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home of Mamou on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM. Visitation will continue Friday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
