JOHN WAYNE GUILLORY, 62, OF NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS PASSED AWAY UNEXPECTALLY ON FRIDAY DEC. 2, 2011.
HE WAS BORN SEPT. 26, 1949 IN MAMOU, LA TO DENNIE AND YOLA GUILLORY.
HE STARTED WORKING AT THE AGE OF 17 ON BOATS IN THE CANALS OF NEW ORLEANS. AT 18 HE WAS CALLED INTO DUTY IN THE SERVICE OF THE U.S. ARMY, TRAINING AT FORT POLK AND SERVING IN GERMANY DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. UPON HIS RETURN TO THE STATES, HE BECAME A CRANE OPERATOR FOR ROWAN DRILLING COMPANY. JOHNS CAREER IN THE OIL INDUSTRY WITH ROWAN TOOK HIM TO ALASKA, ARGENTINA, LOUISANA AND TEXAS UNTILL HIS RETIREMENT IN 1997. SINCE THEN HE WORKED AS A DRILLING CONSULTANT FOR CASTEX ENERGY IN TEXAS, LA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO. HE WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS WORK IN THE OIL INDUSTRY AND RED WAS RELIED ON BY MANY FOR HIS OIL FIELD EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE. HIS LOVE OF RACE HORSES, HUNTING AND FISHING FILLED HIS SPARE TIME. HIS FAMILY SAID THAT HIS CAJUN BACKGROUND TAUGHT HIM THE IMPORTANCE OF LOVE OF FAMILY, A GOOD POT OF GUMBO AND BOUIDIN, A WINNING HORSE AND ENJOYING A CRAWFISH BOIL AT EASTER WITH FAMILY.
HE WAS PROCEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS DENNIE AND YOLA GUILLORY. SISTERS, KATHLEEN KING AND VERNITA FONTENOT.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE SONJA GUILLORY, SISTERS ESSIE BAMBURG JACK, BRENDA GUILLORY. BROTHER, KEITH GUILLORY CYNTHIA. CHILDREN, CORY HILL MIER, ANGELA PAIGE SCOTT RANDY, AND THEIR MOTHER, DIANE GUIDRY.
SON, MAX DENNIE GUILLORY. GRANDDAUGHTER, KORTNEE STELLY GRANDSONS, JON SCOTT, TAYLOR MIER. NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS AND THEIR CHILDREN.
A MASS WILL BE HELD AT ST.ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, MAMOU, LA AT 2 PM. WED, DEC. 7TH WITH PRIOR VISITATION AT ARDOINS FUNERAL HOME. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE FRIDAY, DEC. 9TH AT FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS AT 4 PM. FAMILY AND FRIENDS INVITE ALL TO ATTEND EITHER SERVICE.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE IN JOHNS NAME TO THE RACEHORSE BENOVOLENT FUND OR THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND OF MAXWELL DENNIE GUILLORY AT BANCORPSOUTH, NACODOCHES, TEXAS
