Joseph Felton Richard

Felton was born on September 23, 1943, in Lawtell, Louisiana to Willis Richard and Nola Darbonne Richard. He graduated from Chataignier High School. Felton found a career in grocery stores; he was the owner and operator of Cajun Grocery on South St. in Mamou. He was also a retired manager of A&P Groceries. Over the course of his career, Felton won many management and sales awards. He was also an usher at St. Ann Catholic Church. Felton enjoyed camping, hunting, investing, and going to auctions, but loved his family more than anything. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Felton is survived by his wife, Gloria Dupre Richard; his son, Shannon Richard (Catina Deshotel); his daughters, Vicki Richard and Carylon Richard Fontenot (Jimmy Fontenot); his grandchildren: Cody Richard, Justin Richard, Kaleb Richard, Courtney Lanclos, Seth Hargroder, Heidi Droddy, Frankie Fontenot, Ross Fontenot, Cade Sittig, Catrina Richardson, Tyler Geautreaux, Ronnie Guillory, and Jada Robinson; also survived by 32 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Felton is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Nola Richard; his brothers, Rodney “Black” Richard and Calvin Richard; his sisters, Linda Richard Manuel and Barbara Richard Melancon; his ex-wife, Emma Stanford Richard; his step-children, Scott Veillon and Phyllis Robinson.

At the request of the family visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM on Thursday. The funeral home will reopen Friday, April 28 from 8:00 AM - 1:15 PM.
