With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Leonie Fontenot Deshotels Reed, lovingly known as "Nin," on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family, at the age of 94. Funeral Services will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral home of Mamou on Friday, July 12, 2024, beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in New St. Ann’s Cemetery. Deacon Gary Gaudin will serve as Celebrant over the service.
Nin was a compassionate soul who dedicated her life to her family, finding joy in caring for her loved ones. She had a big heart and loved animals. Her passion for gardening, sewing, and quilting produced beautiful creations that will forever be treasured. Nin’s love extended through the generations, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved children, Marguerite Hoffpauer and husband, Bob of Lafayette, Katherine Deshotels Moore and husband, Bill of South Carolina, Annette Deshotels of South Carolina, Jessica Kephart and husband, Jeff of Grand Prairie, Stephen Deshotels and wife, Pam of Arnaudville, Joseph Paul Deshotels and wife, Stephanie of Mamou, William Deshotels and wife, Marguerite of Slidell and Thomas Deshotels and wife, Renee’ of Mamou; her grandchildren, Dolsey, Kant, Daisy, Christopher, Joshua, Natalie, Nicholas, Matthew, Alexis, Ryan, Miranda, Jessie, Ambrose and Amber. Nin is also survived by 31 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Her memory will be forever cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
Nin is preceded in death by her husbands, Wilfred Deshotels and Jack Reed; her parents, Joseph Kerrell Fontenot and Josephine Camille Fontenot and siblings Jessie Fontenot, Jefferson Fontenot, Verlie Rougeau, Clara Conner and Douglas Fontenot.
In honoring her memory, let us come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman whose kindness and warmth will forever remain in our hearts. At the request of the family, a Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 9:00 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana. Family and friends may leave condolences at www.ardoinfuneralhomes.com.
