Malcolm Lionel Miller, born in 1929, passed away on May 17, 2024, at the age of 94. A proud World War II veteran, serving in the United State Army, assigned Pacific. As a veteran, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He resided in Evangeline Parish. Mr. Miller graduated from Vidrine High School in Vidrine, Louisiana, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He studied abroad at the University of Manitoba in Canada and the University of the Americas in Mexico City, Mexico, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He furthered his education at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas.
As a geologist, Mr. Miller had a distinguished career in the petroleum industry, working with ARAMCO (Arabian American Oil Co.) Coronado Oil Co.and Sinclair Oil. His work took him across the world allowing him to live and travel in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. Notably, he was part of the ARAMCO team that discovered the Ghawar Oil Field in Saudi Arabia, the largest oil field in the world. In addition to his work in geology, Mr. Miller was an esteemed professor of economics at the University of Arkansas. He also served with distinction at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His career led him to reside in several cities, including Houston, Texas, and Opelousas, Alexandria, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Mr. Miller is survived by his family, including his daughter Lizette Miller Radovic and her husband Ivan Radovic, and their children Marko Radovic and Ivanna Radovic; and his daughter Susan Guillory and her husband Mike Guillory, and their daughter Courtney Guillory, and great-granddaughter Piper Kate Guillory.
Malcolm’s parents were Octave Hillard Miller of Evangeline Parish and Bertha Ricard Miller of Pezilla de la Rivière, France, Natchitoches and Evangeline Parish.
He was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, Louisiana.
Malcolm had a unique pet lion named Tiger: the lion was wandering and followed the petroleum exploration team abroad.
He cherished celebrating Thanksgiving at LSU Tiger Stadium with his family and friends, enjoying tailgating for the Friday football games. He also loved traveling and spending time with his family in New Orleans and St. Charles Parish. Malcolm Lionel Miller’s life was marked by dedication to his country, his profession, and his family. His legacy continues to inspire those who knew and loved him.
Funeral Services will be on Monday, May 27, 2024, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou, Louisiana, with a Wake and Visitation starting at 9:00 a.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, Louisiana at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Ann’s Mausoleum.
