aligncenter MAMOU-Funeral Services for Mr. Marvin Guy Newsom, Sr., 85, will be held Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at The First Baptist Church in Ville Platte. Burial will follow in the Bieber-First Baptist Cemetery in Mamou. Reverend Elie Woerner will officiate.

Mr. Newsom, a resident of Mamou, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou. He was a retired employee of 35 years of the Mobil Oil Company and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp having served in WWII where he spent time in New Guinea and the Philippines, and then entered Japan during the Occupation.

A devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty M. Newsom of Mamou; four sons, Marvin Guy Newsom, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Henderson, CO, James Ralph Newsom and wife, Shannon of Richard,LA, Bryan Keith Newsom and wife, Michelle of Eunice, LA, and Edward Scott Newsom and wife, Chasity of Mamou, LA; two sisters, Mary Ellen White of Hot Springs, AR and Alice Fain of Ashdown, AR; and ten grandchildren, Kyle Newsom, Aaron Newsom, Lauren Newsom, Frank Newsom, Katy Newsom, Ashley Newsom, Neil Newsom, Keri Newsom, Wesley Newsom, and Samuel Newsom.

He is preceded in death by one son, Thomas Neil Newsom.

The Family request that visiting hours be observed on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 pm at Ardoins Funeral Home of Mamou and again on Thursday, November 6, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until Services.

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Acadian Baptist Center at 1202 Academy Road, Eunice, La 70535
