MAMOU – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for May “Grace” Douget Soria on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, Louisiana and will be conducted by Father Billy Massie. Burial will follow in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery. Grace passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the age of 74.
May “Grace” Douget Soria was born in Vidrine, Louisiana on Friday, February 4, 1949 to Edia and Lee Douget. While attending LSU, she married the love of her life on January 23, 1968 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She had the pleasure of living multiple places, the best of which was a beach house located off the coast of Ecuador. Many years later, at the ripe age of 55, Grace graduated from UL Lafayette with a bachelor’s degree in Education, with a major in Spanish. She taught for 14 years at Lafayette High School after which she retired. After many requests, she returned to her passion of teaching at St. Thomas Moore High School. There, she would fight breast cancer while growing stronger in her faith. Upon the 4th year of teaching at St. Thomas Moore High School, Grace decided to retire. Some of her greatest accolades are winning the battle against breast cancer, being an avid quilter, and a passionate reader. Her favorite past times included: drinking margaritas on the beach, reading on the beach, napping on the beach, really just anything on the beach… and even banana boating and parasailing. Grace was a beautiful person inside and out and will be greatly missed by those she loved. Her fond memories will live on forever in their hearts.
Grace was married to Vicente Soria for 55 years and is survived by him. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Alice Lafleur. Grace had two children, Nicky Guillory and her husband, Brent and Michael Soria. She had two grandchildren, Blake and Alana Guillory who she proudly spoiled every chance she got. May is survived by three joyous grandpuppies, Dexter, Lexi, and Morty.
Grace was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lee and Edia Douget. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Laura Mae Fontenot, Lionel Douget, Hilton Douget, and Liorest Douget.
