MAMOU - Funeral Services will be held for Merreline Moreau Dupre at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, LA. Father Billy Massie will preside over the service as the celebrant. Interment will be conducted at the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Merreline Moreau Dupre on November 10, 2023, at the age of 86. She peacefully departed from this world at Savoy Memorial Hospital in Mamou, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on July 9, 1937, in Opelousas, LA, Merreline lived a life filled with compassion, love, and dedication to others. She pursued her passion for healthcare, achieving an Associate's Degree from TH Harris Technical College in Opelousas on June 30, 1978. She began her nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse on July 31, 1978, at Savoy Memorial Hospital, where she faithfully served for 24 years until her retirement on June 13, 2002. Merreline was a seasoned LPN and a respected clinical preceptor on the 3rd floor of Savoy Memorial Hospital. Her patients remember her as a kind-hearted and devoted caregiver, always going the extra mile to ensure their comfort and well-being.
Outside of her professional life, Merreline was a woman of strong faith and values. Her faith was an integral part of her daily life as she found solace in saying her rosary, finding strength and comfort in her prayers. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished sister possessing an unwavering commitment to her family, never hesitating to offer support, guidance, and love to those in need. Merreline found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed watching game shows, playing iPad games, dancing to her favorite tunes, and keeping up with the local news.
Merreline is survived by her brother, Mitchel Moreau; children, Emeline and husband Billy Johnson of Mamou, Rebecca and husband Mike Aucoin of Mamou, David Doyle and wife Imelda of Eunice, Cecil Doyle of Lafayette; stepdaughter, Cynthia Kovacs and stepson Ronald Dupre both of Opelousas. She was also blessed with the beautiful legacy of sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren whom she showered with love and affection.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyce Dupre; parents, Tonise Moreau, Sr. and Laurice V. Moreau; sister, Emeline Marjoie Moreau, and brother, Tonise Moreau, Jr.
Pallbearers will be David Doyle, Cecil Doyle, Billy Johnson, Mike Aucoin, Brandon Breaux, and Jodyboy Fontenot. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Moreau and Darwin Reed.
A visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou on Thursday, November 16, 2023, starting at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM then resuming on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 12:00 PM until the commencement of the service.
