MAMOU – The family of Phyllis Ann Reed sorrowfully announces her passing on Saturday, August 13, 2022, in Lafayette at the age of 69. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the New St. Ann Cemetery. Father Billy Massie will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services.
Phyllis Ann Reed was born on August 4, 1953 to Eurven and Eura Mae Young Savant and was a lifelong resident of Mamou. She was an unselfish lady who never wanted to burden anyone and who always looked for ways to help others. Mamou was her home and Phyllis loved her community and enjoyed being involved in organizations that benefitted the people there. She was a proud member of the Mamou Volunteer Fire Department for over 45 years and served as their president for many of those years. Phyllis’s occupation was a paraprofessional educator for the Evangeline Parish School Board; but it wasn’t simply a job to her, it was her passion. It’s often said that Phyllis gave birth to three children, but in her heart she had so many more --- just ask the students whose lives she enriched and nurtured. Phyllis made sure to educate as well as care for all her students. When her students didn’t have supplies, clothes, or coats she found ways to provide for their needs. Outside of school, Phyllis enjoyed watching her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, gardening, and taking care of her family. Together with her husband, Garry, they built their own home by themselves. Phyllis has always put her family, students, and friends before her; now it is time to lift her up as we say goodbye to a wonderful soul.
Left behind to cherish her memory and the times shared together are her husband of 51 years, Garry Reed; son, John Christopher Reed and wife, Morgan Cerone Reed; two daughters, Brandi Reed and Sara Reed Savoy; nine grandchildren, John Mason Reed, Piper Reed, Alexis Young, Emily Falgout, Abigail Falgout, Reed Falgout, Kamryn Dillard Dupuis, Maddi Savoy, and Jase Savoy; brother, Todd Savant; and sister, Sheila Savant Ardoin.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Eurven Savant and Eura Mae Young Savant and father-in-law, Elvin Reed.
