Rita Gale Monier

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Gale Monier “Nanan” on Monday, September 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 82. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou, LA, beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Ville Platte.

Rita graduated from Ville Platte High School and furthered her education at TH Harris, where she earned a degree in Bookkeeping. Her professional journey included a fulfilling career at the Ville Platte Library, a place that allowed her to share her love of literature with others. She found joy in reading romance novels and helping children find their favorite books on the Book Mobile.

Rita's interests extended beyond the pages of a book; she loved to travel with friends and share her memories. Her favorite color, blue, reflected a calming presence that she offered to her family and friends.

Her family was her heart and soul. The memories she shared with her brother's family, whom she held dearly, were some of her most treasured. She is survived by her brother, Ricky Monier and wife Marie “Vie” of Mamou, along with her nieces, Carolyn Monier Marcantel and husband Robbie of Pineville, and Jennifer Monier of Mamou. Rita also leaves behind her great nephews, Carter Paul Marcantel and Myles Anthony Aucoin, as well as great nieces Olivia Paige Marcantel, and Sydnie Claire Monier. Her great-great niece, Kenna Lea Fontenot, also carries forward her legacy of love and compassion.

Rita was preceded in death by her daughter, Marla Clare Monier, her parents RP Monier and Attles Veillon Monier, and her brother RP "Red" Monier, Jr.
