Pine Prairie Roberta Kay Deshotel, 75, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 17, 2012. She fought the good fight and battled liver cancer for two years, surpassing all medical expectations. To God be the glory, she was with her beloved husband, children and sisters near by, she moved peacefully from this life into eternity at 11:00 AM at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Her faith and trust in God and courage were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
We will celebrate her life and rejoice at her entrance into Heaven on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Ardoins Funeral Home in Mamou, La. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Monday from 8:00 AM to time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Sunday and a eulogy at 1:00 PM, Monday. A Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at St. Anns Catholic Church in Mamou. Interment will follow at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Pine Prairie. Father Marc Melancon is to officiate.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her loving husband of fifty five years, Ralph Soileau of Pine Prairie, her son, Dr. Tony Soileau and his wife, Dr. Kelly Breaux of Broussard, her daughter, Julie Soileau Landreneau and her husband, Dr. N. Paul Landreneau, Jr. of Lafayette, her six grandchildren, Nathan, Anna, Amelia, Isaac and David Landreneau and Andrew Soileau, three sisters, Connie Deshotel McDaniel and her husband, Saviel of Lake Charles, Gaynel Viscardis of Beaver Creek and Brenda Sue Johnson and her husband, Wayne of Lafayette and a host of other family and friends. Being a daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend were her lifes callings.
As an educator for 31 years at Pine Prairie High School, Mrs. Roe was a third grade classroom teacher before becoming a curriculum coordinator. Children were her life. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, where her weekly presence brought joy and laughter to all she served.
Her greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren, who called her Mo Mo Berta. She will always be remembered for her radiant smile and wit and the loving, gracious friendships she shared.
