Mamou- A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. for Whitney Fontenot, 83, at St. Anns Catholic Church in Mamou with Father Emmanuel Officiating. Burial will follow in the New St. Anns Mausoleum.
Mr. Fontenot, a native and resident of Mamou, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at his residence. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving from 1944 until 1946. During his military service, he took part in World War II and traveled to Burma, India and China. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 62 years and was also a Charter Member of the VFW.
A loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Cora Mae Rozas Fontenot of Mamou; one son, James Darnell Fontenot of Crosby, TX; two daughters, Mary Eza Fontenot Guillory and husband, Don of Crosby, TX and Emmaline Fontenot Martin and husband, Carl of Katy, TX; one brother, Murphy Fontenot of Mamou; one sister, Lula Fontenot Tate of Mamou; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Londene, Melissa Chamberlain, Donnie Guillory, Jaime Fontenot, Erin Williams, Christopher Martin, Andrea Salmon, and Adam Martin; and eleven great grandchildren.
Mr. Fontenot was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Adea Fontenot and Emma Tate; one brother, Eloi Fontenot; and two sisters, Aline Fontenot Morein and Felicia Fontenot Dupre.
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Ardoins Funeral Home in Mamou from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
